The coaches aim to provide a programme for youngsters that will enable them to learn the value of striving to improve oneself, whilst reaching their potential. For this to happen there must be an understanding and co-operation between parents, swimmers and coaches. Sessions will be balanced between what is best for your child and the needs of the TEAM.The coach will decide who goes in each lane, based upon the age and ability of each individual. Team selection will be by the coaches, and their decisions are final. At competitions the coaching staff and team manager will organise warm-up procedures for the team. After each event the coach will offer feedback and suggest ways to further improve the swimmers performance. If you have a concern regarding a training session or technique, please speak with the coach of the session as they will be able to explain the benefits and reasons behind it. The coaches have the swimmers best interests at heart, and through the many years of experience our coaches have the sessions have evolved to produce successful swimmers.
Eastleigh and Oaklands Swimming Club has an experienced and qualified coaching team. This is led by Gary Abraham, who as a swimmer experienced success at international level. He was part of Great Britains Bronze medal winning medley relay teams in the 1978 World Championships held in Berlin, and the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Gary's 100m Butterfly from the Olympic final is still the Hampshire County record, and he also holds the long course 100m Backstroke record. Gary primarily coaches the senior side of the club and takes an active part in the major individual and team competitions. The junior squads in the club are coached by Keven Shepherd, James Wardell and Katrina Brace.
